In Class Workshops

The in class workshops we have been doing are a great learning tool. I like them, because they give us a better idea at what we're doing right/wrong. A lot of people might be hesitant to let Mr. McCoy read their paper in front of class, but it's actually very beneficial to the writer. I noticed that myself and Ed were the only ones who volunteered for our essays to be workshopped in our class and I was thinking that more classmates should volunteer their work as well. It really is helping you out tremendously, it's basically a cheat sheet to improve your essay exactly how the professor wants it before it's due. I hope some of you take this advice and get the free opportunity to improve your essay.

  1. I agree, the workshops are a great way to get feedback and learn how to make your writings better. But I think you may be missing the point of a workshop. It's not to get your work how the professor wants it. To hell with how he wants it or how anyone wants it really! Workshops allow you to figure out what you want your writing to accomplish and hopefully offer a couple ways to get it there.

  2. I agree with you on the accomplishment part, but when I mentioned the professor I meant grade-wise. Grades are important, so to me and most likely other classmates it does matter how it's looked at in that way.

  3. I have yet to read my paper out loud in front of the class. It's not that I'm embarrassed or anything like that, I just feel like I can do much better with my work, so until I do much better I don't want people hearing. Ya know, I don't want people to hear the end result until it is perfect. The different levels of revision have been helping tremendously though. Sometimes it is a little overwhelming to just tackle it all at once, but when you break it down like that it's not that bad at all.
